DEFINE THE RELATIONSHIP
Introduction:
-
There is nothing more important than “relationships,” but they need to be well defined.
-
When Jesus posed the question, “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6.46), He was defining the relationship between Himself & His disciples.
-
God’s Word defines what our relationship with Christ is to be…
I. DEFINING OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST
-
Jesus Christ is our Savior
-
His name, Jesus, means “salvation” (Matt. 1.21).
-
“Through the washing of regeneration” (Titus 3.4-7).
-
-
Jesus Christ is our Sacrifice
-
He gave Himself for us! (Eph. 5.2)
-
He who knew no sin” became “sin for us” (2 Cor. 5.21).
-
-
Jesus Christ is our Advocate
-
He is our “advocate with the Father” (1 John 2.1).
-
As such, He mediates & intercedes for us. (1 Tim. 2.5; Rom. 8.34; Heb. 7.25)
-
-
Jesus Christ is our Lord, Master & King
-
He is “Lord of lords and King of kings” (Rev. 17.14).
-
Thomas confessed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20.28).
-
II. DEFINING MOMENTS IN THIS RELATIONSHIP
-
Circumstances that test our relationship with Christ.
-
Marriage & Family (Matt. 10.34-37)
-
Friends (1 Cor. 15.33)
-
Wealth (Matt. 19.16-22, 29)
-
Recreation (Eccl. 2.1-3, tev)
-
-
Christians are to live over the circumstances, not under them.
-
It’s a matter of priorities. (Matt. 6.33)
-
It’s doing what He says. (Luke 6.46; Matt. 7.21-23)
-
It’s striving for spiritual excellence. (Phil. 1.9-11)
-
-
The defining statement of Jesus: “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14.15).
Conclusion: There is nothing more important than being in a right relationship with Christ. Make Him your Lord, Master & King!
