Too Short The Days

Introduction:

  1. American naturalist & essayist, John Burroughs, wrote: “I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, all the friends I want to see.”
  2. Moses declared in Psalm 90.10: “The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”
  3. The days of our lives are too short to squander time, yet most do.

“WHAT TIME IS IT?”

  1. This is one of the most frequently asked questions in life.
  2. What makes time so important?
    1. There is no promise of tomorrow. (James 4.13-14)
      1. The Jews were great traders in the ancient world.
      2. The future is not in our hands, but God’s…
      3. 17: Wasting time leads to sin!
    2. At death, our eternal destiny is set. (Heb. 9.27)
    3. “There is no time like the present!” (Luke 12.16-21)
  3. “Come, for all things are now ready” (Luke 14.16-24).

THE TIME IS “NOW!”

  1. To our question, “What time is it?” the godly perspective is, “The time is now.”
  2. Two time passages:
    1. 2 Cor. 6.2: “Behold, now is the accepted time…”
      1. At some future period it will not be!
      2. A sense of urgency must be understood.
    2. 2 Cor. 13.11-14: “Now it is high time…”
      1. To wake up spiritually! (V. 11)
      2. To cast off darkness & put on armor of light! (V. 12)
      3. To walk properly – not shameless behavior! (V. 13)
      4. To “put on the Lord Jesus Christ,” as opposed to fleshly desires! (V. 14; cf., Gal. 3.27)

Conclusion: Do not ignore the personal invitation of Christ: “Come, for all things are now ready…”
