Too Short The Days
Introduction:
- American naturalist & essayist, John Burroughs, wrote: “I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, all the friends I want to see.”
- Moses declared in Psalm 90.10: “The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”
- The days of our lives are too short to squander time, yet most do.
“WHAT TIME IS IT?”
- This is one of the most frequently asked questions in life.
- What makes time so important?
- There is no promise of tomorrow. (James 4.13-14)
- The Jews were great traders in the ancient world.
- The future is not in our hands, but God’s…
- 17: Wasting time leads to sin!
- At death, our eternal destiny is set. (Heb. 9.27)
- “There is no time like the present!” (Luke 12.16-21)
- There is no promise of tomorrow. (James 4.13-14)
- “Come, for all things are now ready” (Luke 14.16-24).
THE TIME IS “NOW!”
- To our question, “What time is it?” the godly perspective is, “The time is now.”
- Two time passages:
- 2 Cor. 6.2: “Behold, now is the accepted time…”
- At some future period it will not be!
- A sense of urgency must be understood.
- 2 Cor. 13.11-14: “Now it is high time…”
- To wake up spiritually! (V. 11)
- To cast off darkness & put on armor of light! (V. 12)
- To walk properly – not shameless behavior! (V. 13)
- To “put on the Lord Jesus Christ,” as opposed to fleshly desires! (V. 14; cf., Gal. 3.27)
- 2 Cor. 6.2: “Behold, now is the accepted time…”
Conclusion: Do not ignore the personal invitation of Christ: “Come, for all things are now ready…”
