WHAT MAKES JOHN 3.16 GREAT?
Introduction:
- If Matthew 7.12 can be properly identified as the “golden rule,” then John 3.16 should be classified as the “golden text.”
- No single verse provides everything we need to know about life and godliness, which is why God has given to us “all Scripture” (2 Tim. 3.16-17). But there are standout verses…
- What makes John 3.16 great?
“For God” – the Greatest Giver
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill ….toward men!” (Luke 2.14).
“So Loved” – the Greatest Motive
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that …while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5.8).
“The World” – the Greatest Number
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared …to all men” (Titus 2.11).
“That He Gave” – the Greatest Act
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s …life for his friends” (John 15.13).
“His Only Begotten Son” – the Greatest Gift
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift” (2 Cor. 9.15).
“That Whosoever” – the Greatest Invitation
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and …I will give you rest” (Matt. 11.28).
“Believes in Him” – the Greatest Response
“I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” (Acts 8.37).
“Should Not Perish” – the Greatest Deliverance
“The Lord is…not willing that any should perish but that …all should come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3.9).
“But Have Everlasting Life” – the Greatest Reward
“Enter into the joy of the Lord” (Matt. 25.21,23).
Conclusion: Make the greatest response to God’s greatest gift today!
