DEEPENING OUR VIEW OF JESUS
The 9th Chapter of John
Introduction:
- Jesus dealt with people on a very personal basis.
- First miracle and the cleansing the temple (John 2.1-22)
- Challenging Nicodemus (John 3.1-21)
- The Samaritan woman (John 4.5-26)
- Various miracles (John 4-7)
- The adulteress woman (John 8.1-12)
- Lazarus, Mary and Martha (John 11.1-44)

A CLOSE LOOK AT THE ACCOUNT
- The healing
(Vs. 1-12)- The wrong question (v. 2)
- The work of Jesus (vs. 3-7)
- The curiosity of the neighbors (vs. 8-12)
- The encounter with the Pharisees (Vs. 13-34)
- The healed man’s first encounter (vs. 13-17)
- The parent’s encounter (vs. 18-23)
- The healed man’s second encounter (vs. 24-34)
- “Seeing” Jesus for the first time (Vs. 35-41)
- Jesus’ question and the man’s response (vs. 35-39)
- Jesus and the Pharisees (vs. 40-41)
A PROGRESSING PERSPECTIVE OF JESUS
- “A Man called Jesus” – v. 11
- He first referred to Jesus as “a man.”
- His manhood! (John 1.14; Gal. 4.4; Phil 2.6-8; Heb. 4.15)
- “He is a prophet” – v. 17
- His response to the Pharisees’ question, “What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?”
- A Prophet to be heard! (Deut. 18.15-19; Acts 3.22-23)
- “Lord, I believe!” – v. 38
- Jesus asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” (v. 35).
- “Then he said, ‘Lord, I believe!’ And he worshiped Him” (v. 38; cf., Matt. 7.21-23; Luke 6.46).
