It’s A “Good Thing”
Introduction:
- When promoting or endorsing something we like or something that is helpful, we often say, “It’s a good thing.”
- The verbiage connotes something positive – it pleases us.
- Let’s look at some biblical examples.
I. GOD’S WORD – IT’S A “GOOD THING”
- Josh. 21.45: “Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to Israel. All came to pass.”
- 2 Tim. 1.14: “That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.”
II. GOD’S BLESSINGS – IT’S A “GOOD THING”
- Deut. 26.11: “So you shall rejoice in every good thing which the Lord your God has given you and your house…”
- Psa. 84.11: “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Cf., James 1.17)
III. EXCELLENT REPUTATION – IT’S A “GOOD THING”
- Philemon 6: “that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”
- Prov. 22.1: “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.” (Eccl. 7.1)
IV. MARRIAGE – IT’S A “GOOD THING”
- Gen. 2.18: “It is not good that man should be alone.”
- Prov. 18.22: “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.”
V. REDEMPTION – IT’S A “GOOD THING”
- Jer. 33.14: “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “that I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.”
- Matt. 19.16: “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
Conclusion: It’s always a “good thing” to be pleasing to God.
