LANGUAGES AMONG US
Nehemiah 13.23-27
Introduction:
- Nehemiah discovered Jews who had long since married women of surrounding nations: Ashdod (Philistia), Ammon & Moab.
- Polygamous Jews were marrying both Judean & pagan women, and some of the siblings of these unions could not understand one another. They should have learned from Solomon (v. 26).
- Let’s consider some languages among us…
THE LANGUAGE OF GOD
- The true language of God is revealed in His inspired Word. (2 Tim. 3.16; cf., 1 Cor. 2.9-13; 2 Pet. 1.19-21)
- We are to use the “utterances of God…that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ…” (1 Pet. 4.11).
THE LANGUAGE OF ASHDOD
- The phrase, “language of Ashdod,” has come to represent a type of communication that fails to represent biblical truth.
- Some non-biblical language: “original sin” (Ezek.18.20); “once saved, always saved” (1 Cor. 10.12); “infant baptism” (Acts 8.36-37); “sprinkling” for baptism (Col. 2.12); “Father” (Matt. 2.39); “Pastor” (Eph. 4.11); Pope, nuns, diocese, etc.
THE LANGUAGE OF THE REDEEMED
- A language that reverences God.(Psa. 89.7;111.9; Heb.12.28)
- A language that praises God with thankfulness. (Heb. 13.15)
- A language that prays to God fervently. (1 Thess. 5.17)
- A language that shares God’s truth. (Psa. 66.16; John 1.46)
Conclusion: What language are we speaking & teaching our children?
