AM Scripture Reading: Joshua 24.22-28
This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey
DECISIONS, DECISIONS!
Joshua 24
Introduction:
-
Decision-making is forced upon us daily – some important, some trivial…
-
In his farewell address to Israel, Joshua calls for a decision: “choose you this day whom you will serve…” (v. 15).
-
We too have important decisions to make!
I. “BEFORE YOU DECIDE…”
-
Beware of impulsiveness! (Prov. 18.13)
-
Seek God’s wisdom first! (2 Tim. 3.16-17; James 1.5-8; Prov. 12.15; 19.20)
-
Ask the important questions – the questions that will consider the spiritual consequences of your decision! (Job 38.1-3)
I. CHOICES THAT MATTER
A. Choosing A Vocation
-
It often begins with education. (Prov. 4.23; 1 Tim. 6.20)
-
Is wealth the primary goal? Be careful! (1 Tim. 6.6-17)
-
Keep proper spiritual priorities. (Matt. 6.33)
-
Where will this job take you? (Gen. 13.5-13)
B. Choosing A Spouse
-
God’s purpose for marriage. (Gen. 2.18-25)
-
Marriage is for life! (Prov. 18.22; Matt. 19.6-9)
-
The advantage of serving God together. (1 Pet. 3.7)
C. Choosing Our Friends
-
Friends are influential. (Prov. 12.26; 2 Cor. 6.14)
-
Thomas Fuller: “It is best to live as friends with those in time with whom we would be to all eternity.”
-
“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character’” (1 Cor. 15.33).
D. Choosing Our Eternal Destination
-
Choose life! (Deut. 30.19)
-
Godly decisions have “promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” (1 Tim. 4.8).
Conclusion: We must make the right decisions during this life – while we have opportunity! Do you need to make a decision today?
