DECISIONS, DECISIONS!

Joshua 24

Introduction:

  1. Decision-making is forced upon us daily – some important, some trivial…

  2. In his farewell address to Israel, Joshua calls for a decision: “choose you this day whom you will serve…” (v. 15).

  3. We too have important decisions to make!

I. “BEFORE YOU DECIDE…”

  1. Beware of impulsiveness! (Prov. 18.13)

  2. Seek God’s wisdom first! (2 Tim. 3.16-17; James 1.5-8; Prov. 12.15; 19.20)

  3. Ask the important questions – the questions that will consider the spiritual consequences of your decision! (Job 38.1-3)

I. CHOICES THAT MATTER

A. Choosing A Vocation

  1. It often begins with education. (Prov. 4.23; 1 Tim. 6.20)

  2. Is wealth the primary goal? Be careful! (1 Tim. 6.6-17)

  3. Keep proper spiritual priorities. (Matt. 6.33)

  4. Where will this job take you? (Gen. 13.5-13)

B. Choosing A Spouse

  1. God’s purpose for marriage. (Gen. 2.18-25)

  2. Marriage is for life! (Prov. 18.22; Matt. 19.6-9)

  3. The advantage of serving God together. (1 Pet. 3.7)

C. Choosing Our Friends

  1. Friends are influential. (Prov. 12.26; 2 Cor. 6.14)

  2. Thomas Fuller: “It is best to live as friends with those in time with whom we would be to all eternity.”

  3. Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character’” (1 Cor. 15.33).

D. Choosing Our Eternal Destination

  1. Choose life! (Deut. 30.19)

  2. Godly decisions have “promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” (1 Tim. 4.8).

Conclusion: We must make the right decisions during this life – while we have opportunity! Do you need to make a decision today?
