This Morning’s Sermon:

NONE LIKE GOD

Psalm 89.30-37

Introduction:

  1. The author of the 89th Psalm is a man by the name of Ethan, the Ezrahite. (Cf., 1 Kings 4.31)

  2. In view of verses 30-37, Scripture once again indicates there is None Like God!

I. GOD’S COVENANT

  1. God’s covenant with Abraham’s descendants:

    1. Beginning with Abraham (Gen. 12.1-3; 15.1-7; 17.1-8)

      1. Physical (Gen. 22.16-17)

      2. Spiritual (Gen. 12.3; 22.18; 26.4; Gal. 3.8, 28-29)

    2. Through Judah, David’s tribe! (Gen. 49.10; Jer. 23.5-6)

    3. The Law of Moses (Exod. 24.1-8; Jer. 31.31-34)

  2. Christ fulfilled this covenant! (Heb. 8.6-13)

II. GOD’S LOVINGKINDNESS

  1. Verse 33a: “Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take away from him…”

    1. The Hebrew word checed (“lovingkindness”) is the near equivalent to the Greek word for “grace,” charis.

    2. God’s lovingkindness overcomes sin. (Vs. 30-34)

  2. Christ is God’s expression of His lovingkindness! (John 3.16)

III. GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

  1. Verse 33b: “Nor allow My faithfulness to fail.” (Cf., v. 37)

    1. God will never deal falsely with His promises. (Deut. 7.9)

    2. Man’s unfaithfulness cannot alter God’s faithfulness (Rom. 3.3-4); God is not a covenant breaker (v. 34)!

  2. Christ is the “Faithful & True Witness” (Rev. 3.14; 19.11).

IV.GOD’S HOLINESS

  1. Verse 35: “Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David.”

    1. He will not lie! (Num. 23.19; Titus 1.2; Heb. 6.13-18)

    2. He keeps His promises! (2 Pet. 3.9)

  2. Christ is the “Holy One of God” (Luke 1.35; Mark 1.24)

Conclusion: Indeed, there is none like God!
