Words of Salvation
Introduction:
-
The Philippian jailer asked the most important question that can be asked, “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16.30).
-
The New Testament is replete with words of salvation!
I. THE CASES OF CONVERSION IN ACTS
-
While Luke speaks of multitudes coming to Christ in generic terms (Acts 4.4; 5.14; 6.7; 9.31, 42; ), he also records some specific accounts.
-
The Jews on Pentecost: Acts 2.1-47
-
The Samaritans: Acts 8.4-13
-
The Ethiopian Eunuch: Acts 8.26-39
-
Saul of Tarsus: Acts 9.1-19; 22.6-16
-
Cornelius’ Household: Acts 10.1-48
-
Lydia & Her Household: Acts 16.11-15
-
The Philippian Jailer: Acts 16.25-34
-
The Corinthians: Acts 18.1-8
-
- Do we see a common act of obedience in these 8 accounts? (Cf., Matt. 28.18-20; Mark 16.15-16; Gal. 3.26-27; 1 Pet. 3.21)
II. SOME MORE “SAVING” WORDS
-
What “saves” us according to the New Testament?
-
“Grace” saves! (Titus 2.11; Eph. 2.8-9)
-
“Mercy” saves! (Titus 3.3-5)
-
The “word” saves! (James 1.21)
-
The “blood of Christ” saves! (Rom. 5.9; Eph. 1.7)
-
The “gospel” saves! (Rom. 1.16; 1 Cor. 15.1-4)
-
“Calling on the Lord” saves! (Rom. 10.13)
-
“Belief” saves! (Acts 16.31; Rom. 10.9)
-
“Repentance” saves! (2 Cor. 7.10)
-
“Confession” saves! (Rom. 10.10)
-
“Baptism” saves! (Mark 16.16; 1 Pet. 3.20-21)
-
“Obedience” saves! (Heb. 5.8-9)
-
“Endurance” saves! (Matt. 10.22)
-
- In reality, it is the Lord who saves, and only the Lord, but salvation has always been conditional!
Conclusion: Have you obeyed these words of salvation?
