“Waiting For The Lord”
Psalm 130
Introduction:
- The psalmist declared, “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope” (Psa. 130.5 – nkjv).
- “Wait” is from qavah [hwq], a verb meaning, “to wait, look for, hope, expect” (Strong).
- Israel was impatient and needed to “wait for the Lord.”
I. WAITING FOR OUR PRAYERS TO BE ANSWERED!
- Verses 1-2: We must take it to the Lord in prayer!
- Circumstances in life make the waiting feel eternal.
- Life can be challenging. (Eccl. 3.1-11)
- God gives us prayer as leverage. (Phil. 4.5-7; cf., Matt. 6.10)
II. WAITING FOR OUR SINS TO REPROACH US!
- Verse 3: What if the Lord keeps a record of our sins?
- He does of the impenitent. (Isa. 59.1-2, 12; 1 Pet. 3.11-12)
- Paul personalized the guilt of sin. (Rom. 7.24)
- Verse 4: But with God there can be forgiveness!
- This is why God sent His Son! (Rom. 5.6-10; 7.24-25)
- Forgiveness is in Christ! (Acts 2.38; 22.16 1 John 1.7-9)
III. WAITING FOR LIFE TO GET BETTER!
- “I’m a Christian trying to sincerely serve the Lord and live a righteous life – Life should be comfortable!”
- That’s not what was promised. (2 Tim. 3.12; James 1.2-4)
- We must learn contentment! (Phil. 4.10-13; 1 Tim. 6.6-8)
- Verses 5-7: The Lord provides what we need most – hope! (Phil. 3.7-8; Heb. 11.13-16)
Conclusion: Don’t wait for the wrong things! (Heb. 9.27-28)
