THE HOLY SPIRIT:
Our Heavenly Guarantee

 Introduction:

1. The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of the heavenly reward!
2. Read 2 Cor. 1.21-22; 5.5; Eph. 1.13-14; 4.30
   1. Arrabōn [a)rrabw/n]: earnest-money deposited by the purchaser and forfeited if the purchase was not completed.
   2. Sphragizō [sfragi/zw]: to set a seal on something.
3. Who has this guarantee?

THOSE WHO ARE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST

1. Read Acts 2.36-41
   1. The “gift of the Holy Spirit” (v. 38; cf., Acts 5.32).
   2. “For the promise is to you…” (v. 39).
2. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Rom. 8.2; cf., 6.23).

THOSE WHO WALK ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT

1. Romans 8.1-28
   1. The “flesh” versus the “Spirit” (vs. 1-11).
   2. V. 14: “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” (vs. 12-17 cf. Rom. 10.17).
   3. V. 16: “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit…”
   4. The Spirit provides help & intercession (vs. 26-28).
2. Galatians 5.16-25
   1. The “desire of the flesh” versus the “fruit of the Spirit”: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness & self-control” (vs. 16-23).
   2. To live by the Spirit is to walk by the Spirit (v. 25)!
