PM Scripture Reading: Philippians 2.1-4

This Evening’s Sermon:

Brent T. Willey

In The Interests Of Others

Philippians 2.3-4

Introduction:

  1. Each of us has been given the solemn warning, “Not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think” (Rom. 12.3).
  2. When properly applied, this will result in always seeking the well being of others. (1 Cor. 10.24; 13.5; Phil. 2.3-4)
  3. In the interests of others, how are we to put others first?
    1. When neglected by others, but you don’t react with hurt or insult, this is in the interests of others. (Matt. 5.10-12)
    2. When your good is evil spoken of or your opinions ridiculed, but you refuse to let anger overtake you, this is in the interests of others. (Rom. 12.17-21)
    3. When you patiently bear with annoyance, irregularity and insensibility, but endure it as Jesus did, this is in the interests of others. (Col. 3.12-13)
    4. When you are content with life’s circumstances while the norm is to do whatever it takes to get ahead, this is in the interests of others. (Phil. 4.11-13)
    5. When you no longer care to hear yourself, or record your own good works, but are happy to point out the success of others, this in the interests of others. (Luke 18.9-14)
    6. When you can see others prosper and honestly rejoice with them, even while your own needs are far greater, this is in the interests of others. (Rom. 12.15)
    7. When you can receive correction from one of less stature than yourself, but then humbly submit without rebellion, this is in the interests of others. (Eph. 5.21)

Conclusion: This is easier to preach than to apply. What do you think?
