PM Scripture Reading: Col. 3:12-17

David M. Fiddament

FEEL LIKE A NEW MAN

(Colossians 3:12-17)

Introduction:

  1. We have heard so many people claim to be Christians, but act like heathens.
  2. Paul says that if we have indeed been born again, we had better act like new people.

I. PUT ON LOVE (v. 12-14)

  1. Bearing with one another. (Gal. 6:2, 9-10)
  2. Forgiving one another. (Matt. 18:21-35)
    1. Don’t hold grudges or complaints.
    2. Forgive as Christ forgave you. (Matt. 6:14-15)
  3. The bond of perfection. (Matt. 5:21-26, 33-48)
    1. Love is obviously relational.
    2. Be perfect as God is perfect.

II. FOLLOW PEACE (v. 15)

  1. Peace of mind. (Matt. 6:24)
    1. Be single-minded. (Col. 3:5-7)
    2. Don’t make things hard on yourself. (2 Cor. 6:14-18)
  2. Peace in Christ’s body. (Eph. 4:1-6; Col. 3:1-3)
  3. Prayer. (Phil. 4:6-7)

III. LIVE THE WORD (v. 16-17)

  1. Let the Word live in you. (1 John 2:24; Col. 1:9-18)
    1. We abide in Christ if His Word abides in us.
    2. How do we have knowledge of Him without the Word?
  2. Be renewed in knowledge. (Col. 3:10)
  3. “In the name of the Lord.” (1 Cor. 10:31; 1 John 5:3)

Conclusion: The change in a Christian’s life should be obvious.
