THE HEART OF REVIVAL
Revelation 3.1-6
Introduction:
- The Lord rebuked Sardis saying, “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead” (Rev. 3.1).
- For the church in Sardis, revival was in order!
- Revive: “to restore to consciousness or life, reanimate; to restore from a depressed, inactive or unused state; to renew mentally” (Webster).
- It is imperative that we learn from this account…
WHAT IS IT THAT NEEDS REVIVAL?
- First, understand what doesn’t need revival or restoration:
- The authority of Christ (Matt. 28.18; Eph. 1.20-23)
- The gospel of Christ (Rom. 1.16-17; Rev. 14.6)
- The doctrine of Christ (John 7.16-18)
- Any plan or work of Christ (Acts 5.38-39;e.g.,Matt. 16.18)
- People need revival! (Psa. 119.25-159: “revive” – 9x)
REVIVING THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE
- There exists a serious spiritual heart condition in the world!
- Kardia: the most comprehensive term for the inner thoughts and emotions of a man. (Prov. 4.23; 23.7)
- The heart must be right with God! (Psa. 51.10-13)
- How can the heart be revived? Read Col. 3.15-17
- “Let the peace of God rule in your heart…” (v. 15).
- “Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly…” (v. 16).
- “Whatever you do…do all in the name of the Lord” (v. 17).
Conclusion: Spiritual revival is always in order! How’s your heart?
