Priority Preaching

Louie Giglio, preacher for the Passion City Church in Atlanta, had been invited to deliver the benediction during the President’s inauguration. He withdrew from participating in the event after some “gay-rights” advocates protested. A statement from a sermon Giglio preached in the 1990’s was the cause of the opposition against his participation in the inauguration.

If you look at the counsel of the word of God, Old Testament, New Testament, you come quickly to the conclusion that homosexuality is not an alternative lifestyle… homosexuality is not just a sexual preference, homosexuality is not gay, but homosexuality is sin. It is sin in the eyes of God, and it is sin according to the word of God. You come to only one conclusion: homosexuality is less than God’s best for his creation.”

I call your attention to a recent statement made by Mr. Giglio in response to the controversy surrounding his participation in the inauguration, which greatly troubles me.

Clearly, speaking on this issue has not been in the range of my priorities in the past fifteen years. Instead, my aim has been to call people to ultimate significance as we make much of Jesus Christ.”

Giglio did not say that he changed his position. I have not read any other articles about him on this issue, so I do not know if he has since commented about whether or not he still believes that homosexuality is a sin. Regardless, he made it clear that for fifteen years, discussing the issue was not a priority in his preaching.

What kind of preaching should be a priority for gospel preachers to preach? Consider the following passages before answering that question. (Matt. 22.29; Acts 20.26-27; 2 Tim. 4.2; 2 Cor. 7.9-10; Rom. 1.18-32; 1 Cor. 6.9-10; 1 Tim. 1.9-10; 2 Tim. 1.13; Jude 7, 23; 2 Pet. 2.6; Gal. 1.10; etc.) The answer is obvious!

[This will be tonight’s sermon! – BTW]
