AM Scripture Reading: Genesis 7.1-7 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey “COME INTO THE ARK” Genesis 7.1 Introduction: “Then the Lord said unto Noah, ‘Come into the ark, you and your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation’” (Gen. 7.1). This is the first Divine invitation given in the Bible. [bō-attah – hT*a^-aB{], an imperative, means, “you come.” There are some interesting applications… AN INVITATION TO ESCAPE CALAMITY “And God said to Noah, ‘The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, […]

AM Scripture Reading: Matthew 7.24-29 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey Some Causes of Spiritual Erosion Introduction: I question the wisdom of building homes on the cliffs and hillsides along the California coastline. Most of us remember the devastation of the 2005 La Conchita landside. This reminds us Jesus’ powerful conclusion to His challenging Sermon on the Mount. (Matt. 7.24-27) Spiritual erosion is a serious problem among us… A LACK OF APPLICATION CAUSES EROSION This is Jesus’ primary conclusion. (Matt. 7.24-27) What’s the problem? Some won’t even listen. (Mark 8.18) Some hear, but will not do. (James 1.22-25) Some exhibit […]

PM Scripture Reading: Isaiah 10.20-23 Brent T. Willey The Remnant of God Introduction: Though Israel suffered various calamities because of their overall disobedience to God, there remained a “remnant.” There are 8 Hebrew words and 2 Greek words that can be translated as “remnant” in the biblical text. The most prolific: Hebrew: sha’ar & she’eriyth; Greek: leimma – Defined: “a remainder, the rest of something, residue, to be left over” (E.g., Gen. 7.23; 1 Kings 19.18; Jer. 42.2; Rom. 9.27). Rom. 11.5: “Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” Who […]

AM Scripture Reading: Psalm 92.12-15 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey STILL ON THE TRACK (“Faithful Until Death” ) Introduction: The 92nd Psalm portrays “the righteous” as healthy trees. “Flourish like a palm tree” and “grow like a cedar in Lebanon” (v.12). “They shall bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing” (v. 14). How important is it to “be faithful until death” (Rev. 2.10)? There is so much we can learn from the faithfulness and dedication of our senior saints… DOING WHAT THEY CAN DO Read Mark 14.1-9 } V. 8: “She has done what she […]

Why Do You Doubt?

Consider: “Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, ‘You of little faith, why did you doubt?’” (Matt. 14.31 – nasu). Doubt is not the absence of faith, but a lack of faith. Those of “little faith” doubt; those who have no faith have nothing to doubt – there is a difference, you know. Our problem is that we are not always honest with ourselves about our doubts. As Christians, we should be aware that doubt has the potential to overthrow our faith completely. Some doubt because of the overwhelming weight of life’s struggles. It […]

Why I Believe

The author of the book of Hebrews defined “faith” with these words: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Heb 11.1 – nasu). The words “assurance” and “conviction” indicate absolute confidence! It was the late, C. S. Lewis, the renowned British defender of the faith, who astutely said, “I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Lewis was a great apologist (defender) of Christianity. His little book Mere Christianity is still a classic in its field […]

PM Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 1.4-9 Brent T. Willey “God Is Faithful” Introduction: Who can we trust? Man? Rarely! (Psa. 116.11; Jer. 17.5) Consider God faithfulness, He, “who cannot lie” (Titus 1.2; cf., 2 Cor. 1.18-20; Deut. 7.9; Lam. 3.23; 1 Cor. 1.9). And so, “the just shall live by faith” (Rom. 1.17). IN YOUR DECISIONS – TRUST HIS WISDOM! Trust His words of wisdom. (Prov. 25.19; John 6.66-68) “If any of you lack wisdom…” (James 1.5). IN YOUR WEAKNESS – TRUST HIS POWER! Jesus encourages us to “ask…seek…knock” (Matt. 7.7). God can do more than we imagine! (Eph. 3.20) […]

AM Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 4.6-8 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey “Fighting the Good Fight” Introduction: Paul wrote: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Tim. 4.7-8). Are we able to say the same with such confidence? ARE WE FIGHTING THE “GOOD FIGHT”? World wars are not “the good fight” Paul […]

It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4.14). Solomon reminds us of purpose: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all” (Eccl. 12.13). We Were Made For This… LIFE IS A SERIES OF CHOICES! It always has been, from Adam & Eve to us today! Joshua: “Choose for yourselves…” (Josh. 24.15). Elijah: “How long will you falter between […]
