AM Scripture Reading: Galatians 1.6-12 Brent T. Willey The Gospel Certified! Galatians 1.11-12 Text: “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” [KJV] Introduction: The apostle Paul’s use of gnōrizō [“certify”] is a strong statement, indicating that his message is backed by inspiration. The “gospel” [euaggelion] is “good news”! THE GOSPEL FACTS – 1 Corinthians 15.1-4 The gospel of Christ is based upon three essential facts. Death of Jesus (1 Pet. 2.24) […]

AM Scripture Reading: Romans 2.12-16 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey Not Without Law Introduction: God has given humanity “law” from the very beginning of time, both natural and spiritual. Without law, chaos reigns… However, failing to understand God’s plan, that was “promised before time began,” many have characterized Christianity as a relatively new religion. Is that so? (See Titus 1.2 & 2 Tim. 1.9) Humanity is Not Without Law, and never has been… THE MORAL LAW FROM THE BEGINNING! Moral law has existed from the time Adam & Eve ate the fruit of the knowledge of good & evil. […]

AM Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4. 1-6 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey Why The “Lord’s” Church?  Introduction: We must be members of the church, but not just any church… Unfortunate Fact: There are many “churches” in the world, many which claim to be following biblical teachings. Is that possible in light of Eph. 4.1-6? This fact emphasizes our need to recognize the characteristics of the Lord’s church as seen in the New Testament. IT TEACHES THE PURE GOSPEL There is only one true gospel! (Gal. 1.6-9) The “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20.27-32; 2 Tim. 3.16-17). The saving gospel! (Rom. […]

AM Scripture Reading: Genesis 3.1-8 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey THE POWER TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEM OF SIN AND PERCEIVE THE POSSIBILITIES Introduction: What was Eve thinking? What was she not considering? “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked, for whatever one sows, that he will also reap” (Gal. 6.7; cf., James 1.14-16). We must experience the power to overcome the problem of sin, and then perceive the possibilities that are ahead! THE PROBLEM The Book of Romans addresses two major subjects: The universal nature of sin with its consequences. (Rom. 1.18-32; 2.3-24; 3.9-23; 6.15-23; 7.1-25; etc.) The saving […]

PM Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 11.1-4 Brent T. Willey Keeping It Simple Introduction: Paul was greatly concerned that the Corinthians had become “corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Cor. 11.3). The message is clear enough: Keep It Simple! I. THE GOSPEL – KEEP IT SIMPLE! The basis is simple. (Rom. 1.16-17; 1 Cor. 15.1-4) The plan is simple. (Mark 16.15-16; Rom. 6.3-7, 15-17) Obedience is simple. (Acts 2, 8, 9, 10, 16, 18, 22, etc.) II. THE CHURCH – KEEP IT SIMPLE! The organization of the church is simple. Universally (Matt. 16.18; Eph. 5.23) Locally (Phil. 1.1; […]

How does my behavior affect my neighbor’s attitude toward God and His word? That is an intriguing question, and one that should not be ignored. The apostle Paul reminded the evangelist Titus to instruct the Cretan brethren, “that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things” (Titus 2.10). Paul employs the Greek word, kosmeō, which means “to put in proper order, i.e., to decorate” (Strong). Thayer says, “metaphorically, to embellish with honor, to gain honor.” It is used of the “putting on of apparel” (1 Tim. 2.9). Our behavior, in a manner of speaking, is the […]

PM Scripture Reading: Acts 10:9-16 David M. Fiddament WHO DESERVES THE GOSPEL? Introduction: The Jews were a prejudiced people. They had always been taught not to associate with other nations in the O.T. But now grace has come to all people. (Titus 2:11) We should never act with partiality. The Gospel is for everyone! I. PREACH TO THE GENTILES A. Peter had a problem with partiality. 1. As seen with the Judaizers. (Gal. 2:11-14) 2. He understood with Cornelius. (Acts 10:9-15, 34-36) B. The Gospel was given impartially. (Eph. 3:1-6) II. PREACH TO “UNDESIRABLES” A. We do not decide what […]

AM Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3.5-11 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey “NO OTHER FOUNDATION” 1 Corinthians 3.11 Introduction: Jesus emphasized spiritual foundations. (Luke 6.47-49) Paul wrote, “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3.11). There are forces eager to destroy the most important foundations in life! (Cf., Psa. 11.3) Christ is the only foundation that can insure stability! I. The Word of Christ is Foundational to Truth “Truth” is more than some philosophical notion! Jesus said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you […]
