AM Scripture Reading: James 4.13-17 This Morning’s Sermon:  Brent T. Willey Too Short The Days Introduction: American naturalist & essayist, John Burroughs, wrote: “I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, all the friends I want to see.” Moses declared in Psalm 90.10: “The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” […]

Keys. Those wonderful, important keys. They empower us. They open things that are otherwise off-limits to us. Keys open our boundaries and our possibilities. There is a sense of power in having the right keys, a sense of comfort and security. Joseph Bonomi describes the most ancient lock and key ever documented in his book, Nineveh and its Palaces. Bonomi observed this lock on a door in a palace at Khorsabad in Mesopotamia. It was a heavy wooden lock, a type that may still be seen in the East today. The key, also of wood, was of such dimensions that it had to be […]

AM Scripture Reading: Matthew 28.18-20 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey BAPTISM ON TRIAL Introduction: Certain evangelical churches have placed baptism on trial and have concluded that it is not a necessary for salvation. Perhaps we need to put our baptism “on trial.” BAPTIZED TO BE BORN AGAIN We need to be “born again.” (John 3.1-7; cf., 1 Pet. 1.22-23). The “dead” man is buried in baptism and a “new” life emerges from that watery grave! (Rom. 6.3-7) BAPTISM BECAUSE OF PERSONAL CONVICTION The essential prerequisites: Learning, Belief & Repentance! (Matt. 28.19-20; Mark 16.16; Acts 8.36-37; Acts 2.38; 3.19) This […]

PM Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11.1-6 Brent T. Willey THE FAITH THAT SAVES Hebrews 11.6 Introduction: “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him” (Heb. 11.6). This passage articulates one of the great themes of the Bible: the essentiality of The Faith That Saves! But “faith” in what? It is a couplet requiring faith in two facts… THAT GOD TRULY EXISTS! To “please Him” involves faithful obedience to God’s Word, “even unto death” (Rom. 10.17; cf., Rev. 2.10). To believe […]

AM Scripture Reading: Romans 7.7-12 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey THE EMERGENCE OF SIN Introduction: Most people do not think about “sin.” This is a mistake! Just how long has sin existed? When did it emerge? What is sin and how and why is it committed? When does sin become an issue in our lives personally? These are important questions and sadly the majority of the world does not understand how serious the “sin issue” is, but God’s Word informs us of everything we need to know about it. THE EMERGENCE OF SIN IN THE BEGINNING Sin is the […]

AM Scripture Reading: Isaiah 59:1-2 This Morning’s Sermon: Homer Walker, Jr. “The Hand of God” Isaiah 59:1  Introduction: The expression “Hand of God” is found many times in the Bible. “Anthropomorphism” the ascription of human attributes to deity. (1 Pet. 3:12; Ex. 33:23; Matt. 5:35) By “Metonymy” the hand of God refers to His activity and power. (1 Pet. 5:6; Eccl. 12:3) God’s hand is seen in many marvelous ways. THE HAND OF GOD IS THE HAND OF CREATION The hand of God created the world in which we live. How did the world come into existence? (Psa. 8:3-6; 19:1; […]

AM Scripture Reading: Psalm 118.19-24 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey No Ordinary Day Psalm 118.24 Introduction: Text: “This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it” (NKJ). Context: The psalm has a dual nature, but it is extremely Messianic! (Read vs. 21-24) The “day the Lord has made” is No Ordinary Day! I. CELEBRATE THE DAY OF SALVATION “Rejoice” in the sense of “celebrating.” TEV: “This is the day of the Lord’s victory; let us be happy, let us celebrate!” LXX: “to be glad, exult, rejoice…keep a day of rejoicing”(Mounce).(Rom. 15.10) “The […]

AM Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 33.14-18 This Morning’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey It’s A “Good Thing” Introduction: When promoting or endorsing something we like or something that is helpful, we often say, “It’s a good thing.” The verbiage connotes something positive – it pleases us. Let’s look at some biblical examples. I. GOD’S WORD – IT’S A “GOOD THING” Josh. 21.45: “Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to Israel. All came to pass.” 2 Tim. 1.14: “That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.” II. […]

The story has been told of a young boy named Tommy, who had just finished making his own toy boat. He brought the boat to the edge of a river and started to let out the string tied to it. He was admiring how smoothly his boat cut through the water when a strong current took hold. He tried to pull his toy back to shore but the current was too strong and the string snapped. He sprinted along the bank to catch it, but soon his boat drifted out of sight. Tommy desperately searched for the boat until darkness […]
