AM Sermon 3/22/15: We Are a Holy Nation
This Morning’s Sermon:
Pete Regan
We are a Holy Nation
1 Peter 2: 9-12.
1 Peter 2: 9-10
- We are a Chosen Race.
- We are a royal Priesthood.
- We are a Holy Nation.
- We are God’s own possession.
1 Peter 2: 11-12
- What does God expect our behavior to be.
- How important is our behavior to the work of spreading the Gospel.
- Our behavior, no matter the circumstance, must reveal the glorify God.
How does God reveal Himself?
- Creation: Rom. 1: 18ff.
- Man: Gen. 1&2; Ps. 8: 5.
- Jesus: Jn. 1: 18, 14.
- The Gospel: Rom. 1: 17.
- Our behavior: 1 Peter 2: 12.
The behavior of God’s people revealing the Glory of God is not a new concept.
- God is Holy: 1 Peter 1: 16; Lev. 11: 44; Rev. 4: 8; Ps. 11: 4; esp. Isa. 6: 1-7.
- Israel to reveal God’s glory and holiness to the nations: Isa. 49: 6, 60: 1-3; Ezek. 20: 9, 14, 22, 41.
What does this mean to us?
- We are a Holy Nation: 1 Peter 2: 9.
- We are to be Holy in all our behavior: 1 Peter 1: 13-19. Cf. 1 Peter 1: 6.
A Holy behavior does not happen by accident.
1 Corn. 9: 27; Eph. 4: 8-12; 1 Jn. 2: 1-2; Heb. 5; 8; 9.
What is the outcome of our Holy behavior?
Dt. 4: 7-8. Cf. Ezek. 20: 32.
How does this apply to us?
We are a light, a city on a hill: Mt. 5: 14-16.
Conclusion: We are God’s people. His possession. Zealous for good deeds that demonstrate God’s glory to the world: Titus 2: 14
