STILL ON THE TRACK

(“Faithful Until Death” )

Introduction:

  1. The 92nd Psalm portrays “the righteous” as healthy trees.
    1. “Flourish like a palm tree” and “grow like a cedar in Lebanon” (v.12).
    2. “They shall bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing” (v. 14).
  2. How important is it to “be faithful until death” (Rev. 2.10)?
There is so much we can learn from the faithfulness and dedication of our senior saints…

DOING WHAT THEY CAN DO

  1. Read Mark 14.1-9 } V. 8: “She has done what she could.”
  2. Some applications:
    1. Positive attitude & demeanor (Gal. 6.9)
    2. Consistent examples of faith (Titus 2.1-3)
    3. Remarkable attendance (Heb. 10.24-25)
    4. Still growing spiritually (1 Cor. 15.58; 2 Cor. 14.16)

THEIR REAL CONCERN FOR THE FUTURE

  1. Of the world: It is scary! (Rom. 12.2)
  2. Of the church: It is alarming! (1 Tim. 3.15; cf., 1 Cor. 4.6)
  3. They are concerned about the future of both!
    1. The extreme depravity of the world… (1 John 2.15-17)
    2. The advanced apostasy of the church… (2 Tim. 4.2-4)

THE YOUNG SHALL BE OLD

  1. “Time stands still for no man.”
    1. “For what is your life?” (James 4.14; cf. Psa. 39.4-5).
    2. The futility of living for the present. (Job 9.25-26; 14.1-2)
  2. “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them’” (Eccl. 12.1).
    1. The importance of training. (Eph. 6.4; 2 Tim. 3.15)
    2. Does wisdom necessarily come with age? (1 Sam. 2.27-36)
    3. The need of application! (Matt. 7.24-27; John 13.17)

Conclusion: Get on track and stay on track, “even until death…”
