AM Sermon 8/4/13: I Find Refuge In Christ!
I Find Refuge In Christ!
Introduction:
- Please turn to Heb. 6.13-20 < let’s read it together…
- When God makes a promise, He keeps it, just as He did to Abraham.
- Historically, faithful people of God have “fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope” God has promised, namely, eternal life.
- This is one of the common themes found within the Davidic psalms (E.g., Psa. 62.7-8; there are about 10 Davidic “refuge” psalms.)
- The author of Hebrews now indicates that Christians have “hope as an anchor of the soul, both sure & steadfast” because Jesus, as our High Priest, offered Himself as an atonement for our sins. He is our refuge! //
- I Find Refuge In Christ!
I FIND REFUGE IN CHRIST
- A relationship with Christ needs to be taken very personally!
- It reminds me of David’s statement in Psa. 66.16. (Read)
- Or Paul’s reflection on his own redemption. (1 Tim. 1.15)
- “Don’t take it so personally.” How can we not take it personally?
FIND REFUGE IN CHRIST
- Seeking refuge anywhere else is fleeting & foolish!
- Not in this life! (James 4.14)
- Not in wealth & worldly amusement! (Prov. 23.5)
- Not in sinful pleasure! (1 John 2.17)
- Only the “law of the Spirit of life in Christ has made me free from the law of sin and death” (Rom. 8.2).
REFUGE IN CHRIST
- Protects me while I am tempted! (1 Cor. 10.13)
- Gives me great courage! (Phil. 4.13)
- Puts me in fellowship with God! (1 John 1.7)
IN CHRIST
- But how does one get “into Christ”? (Cf., Gal. 3.26-27; 1 Cor. 12.13)
- In Christ, a new life ensues! (2 Cor. 5.17)
- In Christ, every spiritual blessing is available! (Eph. 1.3)
CHRIST!
- His name is “Jesus”! (Matt. 1.21) [“Jehovah is salvation”]
- For salvation, there is no other name! (Acts 4.12)
Conclusion: Are you in need of refuge? Become a Christian today.
I am not ashamed to say, I Find Refuge In Christ!
