The 9th Chapter of John

 Introduction:

A CLOSE LOOK AT THE ACCOUNT

1. The healing
   (Vs. 1-12)
   1. The wrong question (v. 2)
   2. The work of Jesus (vs. 3-7)

2. The encounter with the Pharisees (Vs. 13-34)
   1. The healed man’s first encounter (vs. 13-17)
   2. The parent’s encounter (vs. 18-23)
   3. The healed man’s second encounter (vs. 24-34)
3. “Seeing” Jesus for the first time (Vs. 35-41)
   1. Jesus’ question and the man’s response (vs. 35-39)
   2. Jesus and the Pharisees (vs. 40-41)

A PROGRESSING PERSPECTIVE OF JESUS

1. “A Man called Jesus” – v. 11
   1. He first referred to Jesus as “a man.”
   2. His manhood! (John 1.14; Gal. 4.4; Phil 2.6-8; Heb. 4.15)
2. “He is a prophet” – v. 17
   1. His response to the Pharisees’ question, “What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?”
   2. A Prophet to be heard! (Deut. 18.15-19; Acts 3.22-23)
3. “Lord, I believe!” – v. 38
   1. Jesus asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” (v. 35).
   2. “Then he said, ‘Lord, I believe!’ And he worshiped Him” (v. 38; cf., Matt. 7.21-23; Luke 6.46).
