This Morning’s Sermon:                              Brent T. Willey

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE “FAITHFUL”

Introduction:

  1. The Lord said of Moses, He is faithful in all My house. With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?(Num. 12.7-8).

  2. 1,500 years later the author of Hebrews used this passage to emphasize Jesus’ character. (Read Heb. 3.1-6)

    1. Aman (Hebrew) & pistos (Greek)are parallel in meaning: “trustworthy” (Strong’s) & “reliable” (Holladay).

  3. We have been taught What It Means To Be Faithful!

I. FAITHFULNESS PROMOTES GROWTH

  1. Faithfulness longs for God’s pure milk! (1 Pet. 2.1-3)

  2. Faithfulness “goes on to perfection” (Heb. 5.12 – 6.1)!

  3. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3.18).

II. FAITHFULNESS INCREASES STEADFASTNESS

  1. Steadfastness is a must! (2 Pet. 3.17)

  2. Faithfulness is constant in…

    1. Assembling with Christians to worship! (Heb. 10.24-25)

    2. Prayer! (1 Thess. 5.17)

    3. Contributing financially! (1 Cor. 16.2; 2 Cor. 9.7)

    4. Standing for doctrinal truth! (2 Tim. 4.2-4)

  1. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Cor. 15.58).

III. FAITHFULNESS POSSESSES CONFIDENCE

  1. For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day” (2 Tim. 1.12; cf., 2 Tim. 4.6-8).

  2. In whom (Christ) we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him” (Eph. 3.12).

  3. Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward” (Heb. 10.35).

Conclusion: We have been sufficiently taught how to be faithful…
