AM Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:7-8

This Morning’s Sermon:

David M. Fiddament

BLIND LIKE BARTIMAEUS

Mark 10:46-52

Introduction:

  1. Let us read the account of a man who tried as hard as he could to seek Christ. (Mark 10:46-52)

  2. Mark 2:1-5, 11-12, and Mark 5:25-29, 34 are also stories of people with the determination to find Christ and to be healed.

  3. Today, as we study the account of Bartimaeus, let us make some applications to our own lives.

  4. Let us learn about what it takes to receive sight and to help others receive as well.

I. BLIND LIKE BARTIMAEUS

A. Searching. (Col. 2:8; Rom. 1:21-22; Luke 4:17-19; Isa. 55:6-7)

1. Bartimaeus was begging for anything he could get.
2. When he heard of Jesus, he called earnestly.

B. Seeing. (Matt. 13:14-15; Col. 3:5-7; Eph. 2:4-8)

1. Sight is a choice. We need to make the right choice.

2. Jesus can then work miracles.

C. Following. (1 Cor. 6:20; 1 Pet. 1:17-19; Heb. 12:1-2)

1. With sight, we are given another choice.

2. Bartimaeus left all to follow Christ.

3. All who saw it gave glory to God. (Luke 18:43)

II. SIGHTED LIKE THE FOLLOWERS

A. We who have seen now have an opportunity to lead the blind.

1. The blind must first hear of Christ.

2. They hear from those who have seen. (Rom. 10:13-15)

B. Will we lead like blind guides? (Luke 6:39)

1. Will we tell the blind to be quiet?

2. Will we lead them into ditches? (Matt. 15:14)

C. Or will we lead as those who see?

1. Those that have seen the kingdom. (John 3:3-5)

2. Will we urge the blind to meet Jesus? (Acts 22:16)

Conclusion:

Let us seek Jesus with all of our being. Let us urge others: “rise, He is calling you!
