THE PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES OF GOD’S SPIRIT
Introduction:
- God’s Holy Spirit is clearly referred to as an animate “Person,” not an inanimate “Thing.”
- What do we know about God’s Holy Spirit?
THE DIVINE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD’S SPIRIT
- Eternal (Heb. 9.14)
- Omnipotent (Rom. 8.11)
- Omniscient (1 Cor. 2.11-12)
- Omnipresent (Psa. 139.7-8)
THE ACTIVE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD’S SPIRIT
- He speaks… (1 Tim. 4.1)
- He teaches… (John 14.26)
- He testifies… (John 15.26)
- He guides… (John 16.13)
- He permits or forbids… (Acts 16.6-7)
- He fellowships… (Phil. 2.1)
THE WORKING ATTRIBUTES OF GOD’S SPIRIT
- Assisted in the creation… (Gen. 1.1-2; Job 26.13)
- An agent in Christ’s incarnation… (Matt. 1.18)
- Present at Jesus’ baptism… (Matt. 3.16)
- An agent in Jesus’ resurrection… (1 Pet. 3.18)
- Inspired the Holy Scriptures… (1 Cor. 2.10-13; 2 Tim. 3.16)
- Provides joy, peace & comfort… (Rom. 15.13; Acts 9.31)
- Bears witness with our own spirit… (Rom. 8.16)
- Convicts the world of sin… (John 16.7-11)
- Dwells in the Christian… (Acts 2.38; 5.32; Rom. 8.9-11)
Conclusion: We must not ignore the influence of God’s Spirit!
