ADD TO YOUR FAITH…

BROTHERLY KINDNESS!”

2 Peter 1.5-11

(Part Seven)

Introduction:

  1. Our ability to effectively worship and work together as the body of Christ is absolutely dependent upon “brotherly kindness!”
        1. Philadelphia: phileo- to love & adelphos- brother; “fondness of one’s brethren” (Strong).
        2. Rom. 12.10; 1 Thess. 4.9; Heb. 13.1; 1 Pet. 1.22; 2 Pet. 1.6
  2. How is “brotherly kindness” manifested?

 I.THROUGH THE VALUE OF ACCEPTANCE!

  1. Accept allowable differences… (Rom. 14)

  2. Take an interest in others… (Phil. 2.3-4)

  3. Practice hospitality… (1 Pet. 4.9)

II.THROUGH POSITIVE COMMUNICATION!

  1. Cautious with criticism… (Mark 14.3-9; Matt. 7.1-5)
  2. Liberal with praise… (1 Cor. 13.4; Rom. 12.9-10; Matt. 7.12)

III.THROUGH CONFLICT RESOLUTION!

  1. “Be angry and do not sin…” (Eph. 5.26; cf., Prov. 15.18).
  2. Know the facts first – not hearsay… (Prov. 18.13, 17)
  3.  Attack the problem – not the person… (Matt. 18.15-17)

IV.THROUGH THE ART OF FORGIVENESS!

  1. “It keeps no record of wrongs…” (1 Cor. 13.5 – niv, nasb).
  2. Easier when we remember our own faults… (John 8.1-12)
  3.  Forgiving as Christ forgave… (Eph. 4.32; Col. 3.12-13)
