PM Sermon 12/2/07: Add to Your Faith Part 1
PM Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 1.5-11
This Evening’s Sermon: Brent T. Willey
“ADD TO YOUR FAITH”
2 Peter 1.5-11
(Part One)
Introduction:
- Peter enlightens us on how to grow and develop as mature Christians, and we know this takes time and diligence to achieve such! (Cf., Heb. 5.12; 1 Pet. 2.2)
- Our spiritual success depends on what we do with our faith; do we “add” to it, or do we let it go stagnate?
I. FAITH IS THE STARTING POINT!
- “But without faith it is impossible to please Him” (Heb. 11.6) – it is not by accident!
- “Add to your faith” – it is personal! (Cf., 2 Cor. 13.5)
- “Faith comes by hearing” (Rom. 10.17) – it is objective!
II. FAITH BY ITSELF IS NOT ENOUGH!
- “Add to your faith…” (Cf., James 2.14-26)
- Adding to faith requires application! (Luke 6.46-49)
III. FAITH MUST BE REINFORCED!
- Faith is reinforced by “virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, & love!”
- Peter outlines the assurances Christians receive as the result of added faith – 2 Pet. 1.8-11:
1. Never unproductive in the knowledge of Christ. (V. 8)
2. Never stumble. (V. 10)
3. Promised entrance into heaven! (V. 11)
Conclusion: Our effectiveness as Christians is dependent on our willingness to “add to our faith!”
