PM Scripture Reading: The 15th Psalm

This Evening’s Sermon:

Brent T. Willey

“Hold The Hill!”

Psalm 15.1

 Introduction:

  1. The story is told of a young officer during World War I who was told to hold a small hill at all costs. He did so, which was the key to the overall victory!
  2. We have a position to hold (Matt. 28.18-20; John 12.48; cf., Rom. 10.17), and it is our duty to defend the pure gospel of Christ and lead others to it (Rom. 1.16; Acts 20.27; 1 Pet. 4.11).
  3. We must not “lose heart” (Gal. 6.9)!
  4. David’s 15th Psalm, poses: Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill” (v. 1).
  5. As the Lord’s church, we must “Hold the Hill!”

V. 2: “He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart…” (Gen. 5.24; Heb. 11.5; Gen. 6.9; Heb. 11.7)

V. 3: “He who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor does he take up a reproach against his friend…” (Rom. 12.17; 13.10; 3 John 11)

V. 4: “In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honors those who fear the Lord; he who swears to his own hurt and does not change…” (Psa. 16.3; Rom. 12.1)

V. 5: “He who does not put out his money at usury, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.” (Psa. 16.8; 55.22; Prov. 12.3; 2 Pet. 1.5-11)

Conclusion: When the battle is fought and the victory is won, “we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Gal. 6.9).
