PM Sermon 9/2/12: God: Creator, Lawgiver & Redeemer
PM Scripture Reading: Psalm 19.12-14
This Evening’s Sermon:
Brent T. Willey
The 19th Psalm
GOD: Creator, Lawgiver & Redeemer!
Introduction:
-
The 19th Psalm is one of the most beautiful pieces of biblical literature extant. But even more impressive are the expressed truths and important applications.
-
What relevance do we see within this remarkable psalm?
I. GOD THE CREATOR – Vs. 1-6
-
Creation speaks: “The heavens declare the glory of God, and sky above proclaims his handiwork” (Cf., Gen. 1-2; Psa. 33.6-9).
-
The world is “without excuse” (Rom. 1.18-23).
II. GOD THE LAWGIVER – Vs. 7-10
-
The synonymous terms: “Law… testimony…precepts… commandment…fear…rules” (Cf., Psa. 119.105)
-
Their value & purpose: “More to be desired are they than gold…by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward” (Cf., Rom. 5.13; Matt. 7.21-23; James 1.25).
III. GOD THE REDEEMER – Vs. 11-14
-
David desired redemption: “Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me!” (Cf., 2 Sam. 11-12; Psa. 51.9-13).
-
The enigma of sin. (Cf., Rom. 7.14-25; 1 John 1.5-10)
Conclusion: As there were skeptics in David’s day, so there are today as well – denying God, His law, and their own sin!
